What
Is Coaching?

Think
of your life or business as a house
and you want to make some additions,
changes, repairs. Do you repair the
broken windows, replace the roof,
add a room, remodel the kitchen? Too
often in our lives we wish we could
repair our own foundation but settle
for slapping on a coat of paint. My
Inner
Game Business Coaching will help
you find the weak spots in that foundation
and fix them!
You will
learn to clarify your personal at professional goals, and define what
success and happiness really mean to you.
All of this may sound simple, but it isn't so easy to change old habits and views.
That is where a coach can help.

Who
I Coach

I
provide executive and life coaching to
clients seeking a variety of goals. Clients
come to coaching because they seek more of
what everyone wants - happiness,
freedom, energy, and success. Many of my
clients appear "successful" by
any observer's standards, but they sense
something missing or desire something
more, in their personal lives, their
professional lives. Some have a business
or career that has grown stagnant and
needs a change of direction. Others are
seeking more fulfillment in their lives
or a lot more fun! My clients find
that coaching puts them on a path to
improve their own health and vitality, and
find more joy and creativity in their
lives.
How
I Coach

Coaching takes place on the telephone 3 to 4 times a month for 30-40 minutes each call. In addition, clients are invited to call or email me between our scheduled calls for advice, problem-solving or because they can't wait to share a success with me. I enjoy providing this extra service and do not bill for additional time of this type. The context of a confidential coaching relationship provides the safe space for clients to uncover their deepest wishes, fears, and hopes and turn them into reality. How?
-
I ask
probing questions about the life or
career path you really want.
-
I
challenge you to stretch yourself
beyond potentially limiting beliefs
and habits that keep you stuck.
-
I
provide easy to use assessment tools.
-
We
strategize and solve problems.
-
I offer
strategies and information based on my
business and life experiences as well
as from other valuable resources.
-
I
provide continuous support and
encouragement.
-
We
administer assessment tools such
as DiSCTM.
-
I create
an environment in which your personal
and professional growth is the number
one focus.

Tony,
a Toronto restaurateur, wanted a
coach. He was working 18 hour days at his
business, yet he still was not making
enough money, he was not having any fun,
nor did his business seem to be achieving
the standards he wanted it to have. When
he told me he did not know if he and his
partner had the same goals a light bulb
went off in my head. In fact, they had
never sat down to discuss what their goals
were for the business. It reminds me of
clients who present with marital problems, particularly in the early years of
marriage. They have fun, they have great
chemistry. But they never sat down
together to discuss goals, needs, values.
If
they are lucky, our couple (or business
partners) find themselves in the same
groove and go sailing into the sunset. But
more often than not, they start bumping
heads or pulling in different directions.
The first flush of romance wears off. Or
one partner starts to "change."
Communication breaks down. But there is
help.
So
where we begin? We agreed that he needed to
begin to pinpoint which goals
were important to him so be could
articulate them to his partner. We also
agreed to work on his communication skills
to get his thoughts across more
effectively. But there
was something more. Was he trying to get
some of his personal needs met by his
business and by his partner?
He began to
realize he had personal needs he had never
acknowledged to himself that were driving
his behavior and frustration. We began by
identifying which of his unmet needs were
causing him trouble, then strategized on
how to meet them. After he identified his
dreams and the standards he deemed
essential for his company, we worked to
enhance his communication skills in order
to step into the leadership position in
his company he was destined to hold.
Elaine came to me feeling conflicted,
trying to decide between developing her
small business or taking a job in the same
field. She liked the nature of her
business but it was not profitable and
she felt drained. The job, on the other
hand, would provide steady income doing
work she thought she enjoyed. While she
did not like the idea of going to an
office everyday, she relished the idea of
working in a setting with other people,
rather than the isolation she felt working
by herself.
Through questions, assessments
and assignments, what became clear was
that Elaine was a social person, and
derived a lot of energy from the
day-to-day socializing that goes on among
coworkers. However, she also cherished
freedom and flexibility, two important
values she knew she would have to
sacrifice by going to a 9-5. She also
treasured the creative outlet having her
own business encouraged. During what
became the final interview for this job,
Elaine brought this new awareness of what
she needed and was able to stack up the
requirements and opportunities of this job
against what she now knew were her values.
The outcome? She decided against the job
and instead, we are plugging up the energy
drains in her business, including more
collaborative and social activities in her life
and business, and
maximizing those areas of her business
that provide the greatest flexibility with
the highest profits.
