"If you hear a
voice within you saying 'you are not a
painter,' then by all means paint and that
voice will be silenced."
- Vincent Van Gogh
Is there something you'd like to do but
you haven’t done it? Is there something
you'd like to try but don’t dare to
do? Would you like to move to the country,
play more golf, learn a musical
instrument, communicate better, go back to
school, join the Peace Corps, get into
shape, start a business, become a redhead,
get a pet…? Is a voice from within
stopping you?
Silence the "voices" -- not
yourself!
Here's How in 5 Steps!
1. Imagine success.
Visualize your goal and
see yourself achieving it. Envision improved
communications, a great golf swing,
feeling sexier, the
satisfaction of a thriving business --
whatever your goal is. Taste it, smell it,
see it, feel it, hear it. Notice which of
your five senses is most aroused and see
it as a cue to how you will best learn a
new skill or approach a new challenge.
2. Accept where you are right now.
Love the body you have,
acknowledge the personal challenges you
have felt limited by, appreciate your
accomplishments, find meaning in your
current work.
3. Create a tactical plan to bridge the
gap.
Now, outline the steps, activities,
questions, you will need to close the
gap. Think of a tightrope walker moving
from one platform to the other. She starts
out feet firmly planted and envisions
herself reaching the platform on the other
side -- carefully plotting out the steps she will take to get from one
end of the platform to the other.
4. Practice activities outlined in your
plan.
Practice, Practice, Practice. We all know
how to get to Carnegie Hall...
5. Gain the support of a coach or
buddy.
Consider establishing an ongoing
intelligent and loving support system.
You'll get there more quickly, more
effortlessly.
Try it! What have you
got to lose beside those pesky voices!
